An exceptionally large and rare mid-19th century English mochaware bowl with an everted lip. Decorated on the inside with a remarkable three color cable of dark brown, light brown and light blue which covers most of the well. The slip decoration inside of the bowl has another uncommon aspect where we see the ground has two colors of brown slip: the light brown slip ground is several shades lighter over approximately one third of the bowl, and darker on the other part. The outside of the bowl is decorated with three color marbled slip decoration on a white pearl glazed creamware ground.
The bowl was made in England circa 1840.
