Made by Hicks and Meigh circa 1820, this set of twelve dinner plates in the “Water Lily” pattern is exquisite!
The colorful design is Chinoiserie-influenced. Its combination of pinks and green mixed with the Imari colors of orange and cobalt blue is lovely and unexpected.
The dishes are fine quality and exceptionally well potted.
At the center is a golden flower bud. The cobalt blue has gilded detailing, which requires a second firing at a much lower temperature so that the gold doesn’t burn in the kiln.
