Caneware Game Pie Dish Rabbits


A caneware game pie dish in the form of a cabbage with four rabbits peeking out over the top. Caneware is an unglazed stoneware. In the 1780s, the English created the first caneware game pie dishes with ornamental covers. Like this one, molded game pie dishes often had raised bas-relief ornaments of game or rabbits.

Condition: Excellent. Slight staining to the inside of the tureen.
