This is a rare pair of hexagonal Chinese porcelain vases decorated with a very popular pattern known as Bengal Tiger, also known as Dragon in Compartments or Kylin in Compartments. It is an exotic pattern originally made on 18th-century Chinese export porcelains.
Each vase is painted with panels showing mythical beasts issuing gilt foliage, alternating with the objects of good fortune. The bright greens, oranges, and yellows with the soft blues create a striking pattern that was one of the most sought after designs in the 18th and 19th century.
