Background of Davenport
Davenport was one of the leading Staffordshire ceramic manufacturers of the 19th century.
Established by John Davenport at Longport in 1794, the factory produced an unusually broad range of ceramics, including earthenware, ironstone, and porcelain. Davenport became particularly admired for its colorful tablewares, combining durable ceramic bodies with imaginative Chinoiserie decoration.
