Large Salt Glazed Stoneware Pierced Dish, England, Circa 1760

About Salt Glaze Stoneware

Salt glaze stoneware is fired at extremely high temperatures, making it naturally vitrified and nonporous.
The glaze forms when salt is introduced into the kiln during firing. It creates a delicate, slightly textured surface with a soft sheen, often compared to the texture of orange peel.
