First made in the Regency period as a robust alternative to porcelain, Mason’s Ironstone China was a great success due mainly to its attractive enameled decoration. A great variety of patterns appeared on Mason’s Ironstone. Most of these patterns drew inspiration from Japanese porcelains of the 18th century, and were rendered in a palette of luminous enamel colors over a natural white ground.
