Mocha ware bowl With Cat’s Eye decoration. Made in England circa 1820.
The bowl has green glazed rouletting, broadband of blue slip and thinner bands of light and dark brown slip. The blue band is decorated with a three-color cat’s eye design.
Diameter 7.5″ x 3.5″ Tall
Excellent with several glaze slips on the inside of the bowl and a light spot of toning near the base (see images).

According to “Mocha and related dipped wares” by Jonathan Rickard, “A different color of the slip was placed in each of three compartments. Goose quills were inserted into …the cups… When the device was tipped forward a single drop of slip onto the pot on the lathe, it formed the decorative device collectors have dubbed “cat’s eye”.
