An antique mochaware jug decorated with multi-colored slip* dots. On this jug the slip would have been applied with a three chambered cup. During the process the quills were sometimes separated and dragged on the surface of the jug. The result is an exciting decoration with dots of light blue, light brown, and dark brown some overlapping in a wonderful free form design.
*Slip is a liquid mixture of clay suspended in water. Slip is often colored with oxides. Using a variety of techniques the colored slip is poured out onto the semi hard pottery piece.
