A pair of Chinese ginger jars with cabbage decoration dated to the Xianfeng reign of the Qing dynasty (1831-1860). The jars are vividly decorated with cabbage leaves in varying shades of green glaze. On each life-sized cabbage leaf, we see various creatures such as butterflies, ladybugs, a dragonfly, and a silkworm painted in colorful pigments. White color was used to depict the stems, which sets off the overall colorful patterns, and also adds a naturalistic look to the jars. On the covers the decoration depicts an open cabbage leaf topped with a reddish brown knob.
This pair of eye-catching jars would bring life to a traditional or contemporary room.
