Pair of 18th C. French Dishes Made by Guerhard and Dihl


A pair of large oval shaped serving dishes made by Geurhard and Dihl, circa 1790. The decoration on this pair of dishes is the height of French neoclassical design. In the center of each dish is a flower head encircled in a band of gold. The yellow ground border is decorated with a chain of springtime flowers painted in sepia. Along the edge is a lavish band of French gilt with a repeating design of a cresting wave.

Each dish is marked on the reverse in iron red “Manufacture de MM Gerhard et Dihl Paris”
