Pair of Large Blue and White Delft Jars Decorated with Flowers
This pair of large Delft jars have a traditional blue chinoiserie decoration of flowers painted on a white tin-glaze ground. Each jar has six panels showing beautiful flowers flowing from rockwork. The shoulders and cover are decorated with deep cobalt blue lappets. The jars were made by Boch Frères Keramis in La Louvière, Belgium. Belgium was part of The Netherlands until 1831, and many of the early workers at Boch Frères Keramis were hired away from Dutch Delft factories. Begun in 1844 Boch Frères Keramis won a gold medal at the exhibition of the Belgian industry In 1847. The underside of each vase is marked. From the marks, we date the vases to circa 1920-1930.
