A pair of English dry body vases with the wonderful color of cane sugar. Made in the neoclassical style of the 18th century and attributed to Turner the vases are non-porous unglazed stoneware made from local clays in the West Midlands of England, circa 1780-1800. Classical figures in scenes, molded in bas-relief, decorate the body of the vase. The designs come from ancient Greece and Rome.
From a round base the cylindrical vases rise on tripod legs with lion’s paw feet. Tripod is an ancient Greek form associated with Gods and Goddesses. Above each tripod leg rests the head of a classical Goddess. This pair of outstanding vases bring to mind the glory that was Greece, the grandeur that was Rome.
