Pair of 18th century Royal Worcester tea cups and saucers in the ‘Dalhousie’ pattern with beautiful hand-painted landscape panels. The fluted panels are encircled by a turquoise husk border (see image #2), and a wide outer border with groups of fruit and butterflies. The gros bleu outer border is painted with interlocking gilt ovals and a gilded edge ( for a close-up see image #2). These cups are circa 1785. The saucer measures 5.35″ diameter, the cup 2.5″ diameter x 2.5″ tall and is similarly decorated (see images).
Both the cup and saucer are marked with the Worcester open crescent mark in underglaze blue.
An example of a fluted coffee cup and saucer with similar floral sprays and borders is discussed and illustrated in Simon Spero, “Worcester Porcelain: The Klepser Collection, pp. 126-127, pl. 144.
