Set of Four Mason’s Ironstone Plates in Chinoiserie Style Made England 1834-1842


A set of four Mason’s ironstone plates made in England 1834-1842. The colors are vibrant; deep cobalt blue and bright orange. They are beautifully decorated with floral designs of peach-colored and white flowers and turquoise leaves. In the center of each dish are two waterside scenes, one framed in orange the other one framed in peach.

Ironstone was patented by the British potter Charles James Mason in 1813. Ironstone is an especially durable earthenware. Charles James named his patented formula ‘Ironstone.’ Mason’s Ironstone” was a great success from the start. Throughout the 20th century, the company made a great variety of beautiful dinnerware patterns.
