Background of Japanese Blue and White Export Porcelain:

Japan’s first export of small quantities of blue and white porcelain was brought to Europe in the first half of the 17th century by Portuguese and Dutch traders. The first documented export of Japanese porcelain is recorded in a letter of 1653 stating that a ship containing 2,200 porcelain pots had left Japan.
By the middle of the 17th century, Japanese blue and white porcelain for export became a large industry with a high level of quality.
