This pair of 18th-century Dutch Delft blue and white covered mantel jars was hand painted in the Netherlands and marked for the De Porceleyne Lampetkan factory.
The vases have richly molded Rococo forms with faceted bodies, spreading bases, and elaborate pierced flame finials.
Deep cobalt blue scrollwork follows the molded decoration, giving the relief strong definition against the soft white tin-glazed ground.
Each vase centers on a large shaped reserve painted with a waterside landscape showing castles beside the water and a sailing boat.
The surrounding molded panels are filled with stippling and delicate leaves.
Their matching landscapes, elaborate covers, and strong cobalt decoration make this pair particularly effective as mantel jars.
