This New Hall porcelain teapot stand was hand painted in England circa 1800 and is decorated in the factory’s richly colored Faux Tobacco Leaf pattern, number 490.
The oval stand is painted with an elaborate arrangement of exotic flowers, scrolling leaves, small blossoms, and circular flower heads.
The combination of cobalt blue, iron red, green, turquoise, pink, and gilt is fabulous.
Extensive gilding is worked directly into the decoration, outlining leaves, enriching flower heads, and adding fine detail throughout the composition.
The broad oval surface provides an ideal setting for the pattern and allows the complicated design to be seen particularly well.
A deep cobalt-blue border encircles the rim, painted with a continuous gilt foliate design between gilt bands.
The saturated cobalt, bright enamel colors, and generous gilding give the stand an unusually strong decorative presence.
New Hall’s Faux Tobacco Leaf decoration was inspired by the elaborate patterns of 18th-century Chinese export porcelain and adapted for English taste at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century.
The reverse is painted in iron red with pattern number 490, confirming the New Hall pattern.

Condition: Excellent antique condition. The enamel colors are strong and the extensive gilding is very well preserved, with only minimal age-appropriate wear.
