French Samson Porcelain Dessert Service Hand Painted Flowers 14 Pieces
$1,200.00
This beautiful 14-piece French porcelain dessert service was made by Samson of Paris. The service consists of two beautifully shaped serving dishes and twelve octagonal plates. Dating to the late 19th century, it is hand-painted with wicker baskets overflowing with pink and purple roses and other garden flowers, surrounded by delicate, scattered floral sprays. A rich cobalt blue border and elaborate gilt scrollwork frame the decoration.
The combination of colorful flowers, deep cobalt blue, and warm gilding gives the porcelain a splendid decorative appeal. The flower baskets are painted with a delightful variety of blossoms, while the smaller floral sprays bring freshness and delicacy to the design.
The octagonal shape of the plates adds another dimension to their beauty. The gently angled outlines provide an elegant framework for the rich cobalt blue and gilt borders, giving the plates a beautiful decorative outline.
The decoration reflects the European fascination with Chinese export porcelain during the 19th century. The Paris firm of Edmé Samson was celebrated for producing finely decorated porcelain inspired by earlier European and Chinese wares.
The service is in excellent condition, with its colorful enamel decoration and gilding beautifully preserved.

Background
Edme Samson made beautiful, often unmarked porcelain wares.
In the late 1830s, he began his career by making service and set piece replacements.
In 1845, he opened the ceramics firm Samson, Edmé et Cie at 7, Rue Vendôme (later Rue Béranger) in Paris.
During the 19th century, the collectors’ market for antique Fine china was considerable, and Samson’s firm reproduced ceramics including the early Qing dynasty Famille Rose Chinese porcelains.
The firm exhibited at the International Exposition (1867) and the Exposition Universelle (1889).
