This lovely English porcelain dish, made at the Caughley factory in the late 18th century, combines delicate cobalt blue flowers with splendid hand-painted gilding.
The flowing golden vines and leaves, six radiating blue lines, and richly gilded scalloped edge create a wonderful sense of movement and vitality.
The wide, deeply fluted rim is especially beautiful.
Its gently undulating surface catches and reflects the light, bringing the gilding to life and giving the dish an exceptional decorative appeal.
At the center, three delicate blue flowers are enclosed by a circular gilt band.
The same flowers appear around the rim, surrounded by freely painted golden foliage.
The combination of brilliant white porcelain, deep cobalt blue, and luminous gold is exquisite.
The underside bears the Caughley “S” mark for Salopian, identifying the celebrated English porcelain factory.
