Made circa 1765, this pair of 18th-century Dutch Delft vases is hand-painted in cobalt blue with dense “Thousand Flowers” decoration.
The softly octagonal vases have an elegant double-gourd form, with a full rounded lower body rising through a slender neck to a smaller upper bulb and flared rim.
The surfaces are richly covered with flowering sprays, leaves, and small scattered blossoms.
The cobalt ranges from deep blue to softer shades, giving variety to the closely packed decoration.
A scrolling border encircles the upper neck and provides a strong contrast to the profusion of flowers below.
Standing 12.9 inches tall, the pair has an elegant, distinctive silhouette and makes a beautiful blue and white statement.
