This elegant set of eleven creamware dinner plates was made by Wedgwood in England between 1855 and 1859.
The border features a beautifully detailed grapevine motif composed of red and purple grape clusters intertwined with fresh green leaves.
The design was made by first transfer-printing the outlines, and then hand-painting the grapes and leaves with enamels.
The process was a hallmark of mid-19th-century Wedgwood craftsmanship.
Narrow brown enamel bands frame the borders, lending a crisp finish to the composition.
Each plate is formed from Wedgwood’s warm light-toned creamware body, prized in this period for its fineness and soft natural hue.
Together, the set reflects the refined Neoclassical taste and superb technical quality characteristic of Wedgwood’s production in the mid-Victorian era.
