Set of 8 Antique Derby Porcelain Floral Plates Hand Painted England C.1825

This set of eight antique English porcelain plates was made at Derby circa 1825. Each plate is hand-painted with an exuberant bouquet of garden flowers, including roses, tulips, forget-me-nots, and smaller blossoms in rich shades of pink, yellow, orange, purple, and blue.

The flowers are painted with wonderful freshness and variety. Individual blossoms, buds, and leaves spread naturally across the clean white porcelain, giving the decoration movement while allowing each element room to be seen. Smaller scattered flowers extend the composition toward the edge, and a narrow gilt rim provides a delicate finish.

Dating to the George IV period, the plates combine the brilliant color and accomplished flower painting for which Derby porcelain was admired with a form that remains exceptionally usable today. The survival of eight matching plates in excellent condition makes the set particularly appealing.

With eight matching plates, the set has the presence to transform a dining table, bringing the color, charm, and elegance of early 19th-century Derby porcelain into a room.
