This set of eight large Italian ceramic tulip vases was made for Mottahedeh’s Sir Humphry Wakefield Stately Homes Collection in the late 20th century. The beauty of the group comes from its rich, intense colors and from the way the eight vases form four coordinating pairs, each with its own distinctive combination of pink, rose, purple, yellow, and orange. Within each pair, several related tones combine across the tulip petals, while the fresh green leaves provide strong contrast. Small blue flowers accent the front at the base, and small pink flowers decorate the back. Each vase is modeled as a flowering tulip rising from broad green leaves, with a smaller tulip bud beside the main flower. The different color combinations give each pair its own character, while the repeated green foliage and matching forms unify all eight. Displayed together, the eight vases form a lively and colorful decorative group. They can also be arranged as four pairs throughout a room or used individually as colorful accents. Each vase is stamped on the underside.
