Background: Caneware was developed by Wedgwood in the late 18th century as a fine, buff-colored stoneware. Wedgwood continued to use the body for decorative wares into the 20th century. On this glazed planter, the pale caneware ground provides a perfect contrast to John Goodwin’s copper lustre decoration.
