This small Wedgwood porcelain vase (7.25″ tall) was hand painted in England circa 1900.
Its tall, faceted form has a square, flared mouth, a slender, waisted neck, angular shoulders, and a spreading, hexagonal foot.
The decoration is particularly rich for a vase of this size.
Alternating cream-colored and gilt panels are decorated with transfer-printed floral motifs, hand colored in enamels and enriched with gilding.
Deep cobalt-blue bands around the mouth, shoulder, and foot are highlighted with gilt dashes and dots, providing a strong architectural frame for the floral decoration.
The flattened floral motifs, gilt grounds, and saturated cobalt reflect the continuing influence of Japanese and Aesthetic Movement design on Wedgwood decorative ceramics at the turn of the 20th century.
The faceted shape and alternating panels make the decoration especially eye-catching.
The underside bears the printed Wedgwood mark incorporating the Portland Vase.
