Background of Dutch Delft:
The technique of making Delft was first described in writing by Gerrit Paape in “The Delft Pottery Maker,” published in 1794 and dedicated to Lambertus Sanderus, owner of De Porceleyne Claeuw. Delft faience began in the seventeenth century, with much of the finest production centered in the city of Delft. Potters coated their wares in an opaque white tin glaze and applied decoration in cobalt before covering the surface with a clear glaze. This process gave depth to the blues and a smooth, luminous finish. By about 1650, technical skill had advanced significantly, ushering in the golden age of Delft production -

Pair Dutch Delft Blue and White Covered Jars Circa 1770
$2,600.00This pair of Dutch Delft blue and white covered jars, painted circa 1770, has the scale, clarity, and completeness that distinguish fine eighteenth-century examples. Fully composed on every side, they show careful planning and confident brushwork that allow them to command space in the round.
The front of each jar presents a chinoiserie landscape with a standing figure in a garden and a boy observing from a terrace, framed within formal lambrequins and scrolling ornament. The reverse is equally considered, with flowering branches and a long-tailed bird that introduce movement and contrast.
The cobalt is handled with assurance, shifting from soft atmospheric washes to deeper saturated passages. The blue remains clear and lively, and its tonal variation gives dimension to the scenes while harmonizing with the warm, creamy tin-glazed ground. Subtle pooling at the brush edges adds energy without heaviness.
The softly faceted bodies strengthen the form and animate the painted surface as light moves across the planes. The octagonal covers are crowned with crisply modeled leopard finials, expressive and alert. The survival of both original covers with closely matched finials meaningfully strengthens the integrity of the pair.
At twelve and a half inches high and thirteen inches with their custom wood stands, the jars have a balanced and substantial presence. The strength of the cobalt and the clarity of the form give the pair a confident and settled presence.

2. Attribution
Both Pieter Gerritsz Kam (active c.1700–1705) and his widow Maria van der Kloot (c.1705–1716) used PK. The mark places it firmly in the Kam workshop.
3. Comparison with the Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum’s Bradbury Bedell Collection includes jars with nearly identical PK marks. Like our pair, they are octagonal vases with blue-and-white decoration, confirming a close link to the Kam workshop’s recognized output. -

$480.00This antique Dutch Delft charger is hand-painted in a vibrant polychrome palette that immediately draws the eye to its rich cobalt blue rockwork, a bold foundation that intensifies the surrounding greens, ochres, iron red, and manganese purple.
At the center unfolds a stylized garden scene: a willow tree with a softly modeled purple trunk and drooping ochre leaves, a large white blossom accented in manganese, and curling foliage in lively green and red.
A purple garden fence with yellow posts outlined in red anchors the composition, while the brilliant blue rockwork provides contrast and depth, heightening the harmony of the entire design.
The composition reflects the decorative confidence of 18th-century Dutch Delft, where strong color relationships and fluid brushwork transform a simple garden motif into a scene of movement and vitality.

Antique Delft Purple Floral Plates Hand Painted 18th Century Set of 5
$450.00This set of five antique Dutch Delft plates is hand-painted in a rich purple derived from manganese, the color softly glowing against the pale tin-glazed ground.
At the center of each plate stands a flowering peony, its blossoms fully open, the composition framed by delicate floral sprigs and a rhythmic border along the rim.
The restrained palette and confident brushwork create a striking harmony between form and decoration.
The design was created by Hugo Brouwer, active from 1760 to 1788, who worked at De Drie Porceleyne Flesschen in Delft. Brouwer developed the pattern, and the plates were executed in his factory using a stencil to guide the composition, then completed by hand.
Each example in the set bears Brouwer’s H B mark, confirming authorship. C. H. de Jonge, in Delft Ceramics, notes on page 126 that Hugo Brouwer signed his work with his initials, HB, and the mark is illustrated on page 157.
A fruit dish by Brouwer is held in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 94.4.341.
The peony, long associated with prosperity and abundance, is rendered here with lively line and confident shading.
The purple tone, achieved through manganese oxide, was especially admired in the eighteenth century for its depth and subtle tonal variation. This set offers an opportunity to acquire five cohesive works directly tied to a documented Delft master.

18th Century Blue and White Delft Large Plate Hand Painted Decoration
$380.00This is a naive mid-18th-century blue and white Delft large plate, hand-painted in rich cobalt with a charming chinoiserie garden scene centered on a Long Eliza figure.
Made in the first half of the 18th century, circa 1740, this large plate features an elongated female figure seated calmly within the landscape.
She is framed by scrolling vines, leafy sprays, and a potted flowering plant, all rendered with the spontaneous brushwork and gentle asymmetry that define early Delftware at its most appealing.
The decoration reflects the Dutch fascination with Chinese export imagery, filtered through a distinctly European hand that favors directness and narrative clarity over strict precision. The border is decorated with linked concentric circles, a rhythmic motif that encloses the scene while emphasizing the plate’s broad, open surface.
Long Eliza, from the Dutch Lange Lijzen, is the traditional term for these elongated figures adapted from Chinese export porcelain, and her presence here places the plate squarely within the popular chinoiserie tradition of the 18th century.
The surface shows light wear consistent with age, and discreet professional restoration to small edge chips preserves the integrity of the form without distracting from the decoration.Dimensions: H 2 in. x Diameter 11.25 in.
Condition: Excellent, with some invisible professional restoration to small chips along the edge.
Decoration: Hand-painted with a cobalt chinoiserie garden scene with Long Eliza figure and linked circle border.
Material: Tin-glazed earthenware (Delftware).
